Technology Validation Using Bird-Shaped UAV in Real Flight Tests
Artificial Vision has successfully completed a pioneering series of tests using a bird-shaped biomimetic drone to validate the accuracy and reliability of its advanced wildlife detection and protection system for wind turbines.
During the trials, the UAV —with a 1.5-meter wingspan and equipped with high-precision GPS— performed multiple flights following realistic approach, gliding, and turning patterns around a wind turbine protected by our system. The bird-UAV was consistently detected at distances of up to 700 meters, confirming the system’s range and robustness even under demanding operational conditions.
Artificial Vision’s team compared the system’s estimated positions with the 3D trajectory recorded by the drone’s GPS, achieving excellent correlation and validating the system’s capability to anticipate trajectories and trigger protective actions in real time.
“We are extremely pleased with the results. This type of real-world validation demonstrates the maturity of our technology and its ability to keep improving day by day,” stated the Artificial Vision technical team”
With this milestone, Artificial Vision reinforces its commitment to innovation, precision, and biodiversity protection, advancing toward increasingly effective solutions that enable the safe coexistence between wind energy and wildlife.
